Tinshill Recreation De-Fence Group

zero tolerance of dictator-style decisions by council officials.

North West (Inner) Area Committee 13 December Meeting    page to be retained as historical?

The Meeting took place at 7pm in the West Park Centre, 5 members of our group attended. Twelve councillors attended including Cllrs Bentley, Chapman and Jennings from our Weetwood ward.

Tinshill Recreation Ground was the last item on the agenda but it was worth the wait. We had to wait nearly 3 hours for our turn.

The Chief Planning Officer sent a report about the latest developments. He did not attend to answer questions.

Alan Procter complained about car parking on the ground, despite promises that the new school would be used for this purpose. He also asked if Sport England had been consulted of if the Council or Government could stop the plan with an Article 4 Direction. Andrew Wishardt asked questions too.

Councillors heard that there was a need to update the City’s Sport Pitch Strategy. There were questions about  the future of the old school site.

The Committee decided to note the matter. The Director of City Development  was to be requested to prepare an updated report on the City Sports Pitch Strategy for a future meeting.

On a more hopeful note they resolved,

“That in relation to the regeneration of Holt Park District Centre, this committee suggests that if the old school site cannot be included in the proposed regeneration, the area should be turned into the school’s playing pitches and the fences around pitches on Tinshill Recreation Ground be removed”
