Tinshill Recreation De-Fence Group

zero tolerance of dictator-style decisions by council officials.

Deputation to Council 20 June 2007 retain-history?

Tinshill Recreation De-Fence Group took a deputation to the council  on 20 June 2007.

We wanted to talk about the proposed fence then but we were told that we could not mention Tinshill Recreation Ground because a planning application was being considered by the council.

Gail Asquith spoke at the meeting  and was accompanied by Mr Drakes, Mr Gill, Alan Procter, Michelle Wishardt, Andrew Wishardt.

Gail said “ I speak for all the residents of Leeds 16, Farrar Lane and Raynel Way especially. This used to be a beautiful part of Leeds which we, the residents, were so proud of. The new school looks horrendous, blocking people’s views over greenbelt. Also due to the Education Dept. digging on fields we have to suffer noise, dust and now with the weather, landslides into people’s gardens.

We, the residents do not want houses and new buildings built on our doorsteps. Instead let’s get back to its original beautiful historical site and get some pride back for our children and grandchildren. Let’s rebuild the Roman wall which is now no longer visible for overgrown shrubbery and all the rubbish and broken bottles which animals are injuring themselves on. Also Ralph Thoresby has not put only one fence around the school, it has 2, which has taken more land off Farrar Lane which we don't think is theirs”.

Council gave a round of applause after Gail delivered her speech. A council official led us outside where we met a number of councillors.

Help us stop the diggers now.

Update 17/1/2008

Taking a deputation to council is a way of communicating strong community feelings to councillors before they start their debate.
