Tinshill Recreation De-Fence Group

zero tolerance of dictator-style decisions by council officials.

October Council Meeting News retained– historical?

The council decided on 31 October that it would not reconsider its decision to build the fence. The good news is that the matter has been referred to one of its committees that will meet on December 13, The Leeds North West Inner. The fence might still be built though.

The debate at the Council was quite thorough. Cllr Elizabeth Minkin was the first to speak. She represents Kirkstall and her ward has residents that use the pitches at Tinshill.

Cllr Minkin wanted the decision to be reconsidered but after a number of speeches the Lord Mayor called for a vote. A request was made for a recorded vote. This procedure would mean that we would be able to find out  how our councillors voted.

The council decided to reject the amendment by a fairly close vote, 49 said no and 45 yes. We lost.

The details of the voting appeared on the council website  on 14 November. However when it was read it looked as though the vote was about Royal Park School.

Alan Procter complained about this immediately, and it has been corrected. It was claimed that it was an error.

Our six councillors in Adel & Weetwood voted no. They did not want the project to be reconsidered.

If any three of them had voted yes we would have won this stage of the war to defeat the fence. One of them has  written “The Labour Group were playing politics with the issue”.

The recorded vote showed that we had got the support of the Labour Group and three of their allies.

It is not a political matter. We do not want a fence to be built on Tinshill Recreation Ground. We will continue to try and get our councillors to support this in future.
